Renters insurance requirements
What you must carry
At least $100,000 in liability coverage, and Loss of Use coverage, also called Additional Living Expenses. Both are required under your lease.
Proof before you move in
You must provide proof of this specific coverage before taking possession of the home.
Why Loss of Use matters
Our property insurance does not cover your belongings or your temporary housing, even if the problem is the building itself. If a repair forces you out, your Loss of Use coverage pays for the hotel. You file that claim first.
If you have a pet
An approved pet requires continuous Pet Liability coverage for as long as the animal is in the home. Where our insurer makes it available, you may instead request in writing to be added to a pet liability policy arranged through us, at your cost. Availability is not guaranteed. We are not an insurance agent or broker.
Lapses
Coverage must stay active for the entire tenancy. We are introducing penalties for lapses in renters insurance and in pet liability insurance. Keep your policy current and send us updated proof when it renews.
Your written lease and its addenda control. Nothing on this page is legal advice.
